Day 17/30 of #30daysoffloristconfessions
I remember this one like it was yesterday. I hadn’t made a hand tied trailing bouquet with long stems of phalaenopsis orchids before. So it was a challenge, one that I stepped up to..like we do.
I finished it without snapping or damaging any of those orchid heads. The hydrangeas in it, were perfectly fluffy & blue and the roses were a dream. I was pretty chuffed with it.
Then she came over… let’s call her Mary-the big boss. Mary came and stood really close in front of me and announces ‘this isn’t good enough, I don’t like it, it doesn’t look worth the money’
At this point I had worked there quite some time so I was used to being put on the spot but this took it to a new level. I tried to get specifics on what was ‘wrong’ with it and she couldn’t give me an answer.
Haha so we just stood there glaring at each other for what felt like forever! Until let’s call him, Steven literally had to come stand between us. He gave me a couple of suggestions of what I could change which I went ahead and did.
I put it bouquet in water, tidied my desk, put the kettle on and went to the toilet and cried a little. I can take criticism as well as the next person but initimidation I’m not cool with.

DEAR BOSSES OF FLORISTS, constructive criticism is QUEEN! If you struggle wth providing that for your hard working florists…then read up on it, youtube it or take a fucking class!
Much appreciated,
Kind regards,
Katie & every other florist in the world. 🙏🏻
